Laundry Shuttle

A problem with traditional laundry basket design is that for individuals with limited mobility and to whom falls could be life threatening, carrying a laundry basket, especially up and down stairs, is far too dangerous. The solution that the Laundry Shuttle provides is to alter the means by which one transports the basket so that they may have sure and stable footing both up and down stairs. The Laundry Shuttle allows elderly or those with limited mobility to better and more safely maintain their personal independence. The goal of this project was to find and solve a problem for the elderly.

Walkane, mobility aid

The Walkane walker is an innovative re-invention of the common and poorly designed walker. The Walkane provides the same security and stability as the traditional walker but adds much improved use on stairs and in storage/transportation. The ability of the Walkane to collapse from its expanded walker form to a slim cane allows users to navigate places, such as stairs, that non-collapsable traditional walkers would make difficult or impossible to move through. Our instruction for this project was to find and solve a problem for the elderly.

The Vast Lab Wall

The presentation/critique wall facilities at RPI were not the best and desperately needed improving. The facility did nothing to inspire students' development/growth or creativity and to myself and my classmate, Phil LaPier, this was not acceptable. Our solution was to design, propose the redesign to faculty and administration, raise funds, and build a new one. Check out the result!

Meta-Posters

Each poster in this series represents and embodies a different visual design concept. Using the same base image helps highlight the differences between each concept.

C.S.D

The Critical Slicing Device is a hand held cutting tool designed to blend the cutting power of a utility knife with the precision of an X-Acto knife while also adding enhanced grip and safety features. It was designed for a project in which we were to develop a new tool for our studio space.

Color Calendar

The calendar was designed in six pieces. Each piece represents two months of a year utilizing specific color parameters and an associated descriptive word. The piece as a whole uses the visual concept of a "path" as a metaphor for time.
